How Ellery ADU Studio Lancaster Was Born in Lancaster

We remember the exact afternoon in late 2015 when we knew Lancaster needed something different. Nadia Ellery had spent three years working permit expediting for a regional builder, sitting in the Antelope Valley office on Avenue K, watching homeowners walk in with rolled drawings under their arm and walk out six months later with nothing but a longer permit queue and a drained savings account. The California ADU law had just changed, and the industry responded by adding salespeople, not clarity.

What broke something in Nadia was a couple from Quartz Hill who came in that October. They had paid a designer in Palmdale for plans, then a contractor in Santa Clarita for a bid that came in $40,000 higher than promised, and now they were in Nadia’s queue with drawings that didn’t match the city’s setback table. The wife sat in the plastic chair and said, “We just want to know what this actually costs before we start.” She said it like she was asking for something unreasonable. Nadia spent her lunch hour calling the contractor, then the designer, then the city’s planning desk. Nobody would own the number. That afternoon, Nadia called the owner of Ellery ADU Studio - the brand had started that same year in another California market - and asked what it would take to bring the Haven Standard here. The answer was: her license, her reputation, and her willingness to put every price in writing before a shovel touched dirt. She said yes that week.

Nadia Ellery’s Personal Connection to the ADU Trade

Nadia didn’t grow up swinging a hammer. She grew up in a house in Lake Los Angeles where her mother rented out the back room to make the mortgage, and that room had no permit, no insulation, and a window unit that rattled the drywall. She remembers the smell of that room, the way the carpet held the heat, the way her mother flinched every time the county assessor’s truck drove by. What Nadia learned was that housing people safely is a form of care, and that the people who need it most are the ones least equipped to navigate the system.

She started in permits because she thought the system was the problem. After two years, she realized the system was only half of it. The other half was the gap between the person who drew the plan and the person who built it, each pointing at the other when the wall didn’t meet code or the price didn’t match the promise. She moved into project coordination, then into field supervision, spending mornings in the dirt of Acton job sites and afternoons in the Palmdale planning department with redlined drawings. The work smelled like sawdust and thermal paper. It felt like solving a puzzle where the pieces were people’s actual lives.

What gets Nadia out of bed is the moment a homeowner understands their own project for the first time. Not when they sign, but when they see the permit set and realize why the window goes there, why the foundation depth changed, why the price is the price. If she weren’t doing this, she’d probably be teaching somewhere, or back in a planning department trying to fix the queue from the inside. But she’s here because Ellery let her build the thing she wished existed when her mother needed it: a single contract, a single number, a single person who doesn’t disappear when the hard questions start.

Meet Nadia Ellery - The Person Behind Every Job

Nadia Ellery is the Owner and Founder of Ellery ADU Studio Lancaster. She holds a California contractor’s license and has spent her entire career in the Antelope Valley permit and build ecosystem, from the city’s planning counter to the dirt of active job sites. Her training is practical and accumulated: years reading setback tables with city planners, years watching Dvele and Abodu units set on foundations, years learning why a James Hardie install fails in high-desert wind and how to spec it so it doesn’t.

What makes Nadia different from a corporate franchise technician is that she lives in the service area, answers questions about her own neighbors’ projects, and still personally reviews every permit set before it leaves this office. She runs early mornings, which means she’s often at the Lake Los Angeles trailhead by 6 AM, thinking through a foundation detail while the desert is still cool. Her commitment to you is direct: every ADU we build in Lancaster carries her license, her name, and her documented record of what we found and what we fixed.

Our Promise to Lancaster Homeowners

Our values aren’t framed on a wall. They’re operational, and they come from the Haven Standard that Ellery ADU Studio established in 2015.

Have it in writing. Every job starts with a fixed price, a written scope, and a written warranty. Clause 1 of the Haven Standard exists because Nadia watched too many homeowners in Sun Village and Castaic sign vague proposals and eat the overruns. We don’t do estimates that become invoices. We do contracts that become records.

Arrive on schedule. We give you a real window, a named technician, and a text when they’re on the way. This sounds basic until you’ve waited four hours for a contractor who “was definitely coming” to a job in Stevenson Ranch.

Verified crews. Every professional working under our name is required to hold the license and insurance their state requires. We document it. We don’t ask you to trust us; we show you the paper.

Evidence on every job. Photos and readings of what we actually found, attached to your file, available when you need them. In Lancaster’s high-desert climate, that evidence matters: the soil expansion, the wind load, the thermal bridging that shows up in January.

No surprises. No door upsell, no scope creep, no “while we’re in here.” The price you sign is the price you pay. If we find something we didn’t expect, we stop, document it, and write a change order with a new price before we proceed. Haven Standard, Clause 5.

Our Credentials

Our Credentials
  • State-licensed contractor - required by California law for any ADU construction over $500
  • Insured & bonded - protection for your property and our crew while work is active
  • Years of local experience in the Antelope Valley permit and build environment
  • Strong local reputation built project by project across Lancaster, Palmdale, Quartz Hill, and surrounding communities

These credentials matter because an ADU is a six-figure project that lives in your backyard for decades. State licensing means someone has verified Nadia’s knowledge of California building code. Insurance and bonding mean that if a worker is injured on your property or a foundation crack appears two years later, there’s a path to resolution that doesn’t depend on personal promises. Local experience means we’ve already navigated the Lancaster planning department’s specific requirements for fire access, utility tie-ins, and the high-desert wind exposure that affects every structural calc. You don’t want to be the project where your contractor learns these things.

Rooted in Lancaster

We’re here Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, and Saturday and Sunday, 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM, because that’s when Lancaster homeowners call about ADUs. Nadia lives in the area, runs in the local hills, and knows the difference between a lot in Sun Village and one in Lake Los Angeles when it comes to septic requirements and access roads. We’ve worked with homeowners from Acton to Sylmar, from Tujunga to Santa Clarita, and we understand that a Lancaster ADU faces different soil, wind, and permitting realities than one built closer to Los Angeles. The desert isn’t a backdrop here. It’s a condition we build for.
